The Western Athletic Conference held its Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) summer in-person meeting July 27-29 on the campus of The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in Edinburg, Texas. WAC SAAC representatives from all nine league institutions discussed various national, Conference and institutional topics ranging from the student-athlete transfer issues and early recruitment to diversity and inclusion on their respective campuses.
CSU Bakersfield cross country and track and field athlete Angel Valdez and Grand Canyon softball player Bianca Boling have been selected by the WAC senior woman administrators to represent the conference for the 2018 NCAA Woman of the Year award. In its 28th year, the award recognizes graduating female student-athletes for excellence in academics, athletics, community service and leadership.
CSU Bakersfield Deputy Athletics Director Dena Freeman-Patton has been selected by the Women Leaders in College Sports as the NCAA Division I (Non-Football) 2018 Administrator of the Year Award recipient.
DENVER – Utah Valley cross country and track athlete Tyson Lambert and Grand Canyon softball player Bianca Boling have been named the 2017-18 Western Athletic Conference Stan Bates Award winners. Named in honor of former WAC Commissioner Stan Bates, the annual award is given to the WAC’s top male and female scholar-athletes and recognizes athletic, academic and community accomplishments. The award includes a $3,000 postgraduate scholarship.
Kansas City Deputy Athletic Director Ursula Gurney today was awarded the N4A Distinguished Service Award. The award is presented annually to a N4A member who has demonstrated continuous N4A membership for five years, leadership in N4A at the regional or national level, a high quality of which is recognized by N4A peers and contributions above and beyond the normal service required by positions of leadership.
