WAC Officially Welcomes Southern Utah and UT Arlington

DENVER - The Western Athletic Conference officially welcomed Southern Utah University and the University of Texas at Arlington as members of the conference on July 1.

Southern Utah announced their intentions to join the WAC on Jan. 14 of 2001. UT Arlington made their declaration on Jan. 21 of this year. The additions of SUU and UTA give the WAC 14 member institutions for the 2022-23 school year. 

The Thunderbirds join the conference from the Big Sky Conference, while the Mavericks were most recently in the Sun Belt Conference.

Additionally, Dixie State has officially changed its name to Utah Tech and Chicago State has departed the WAC.

About Western Athletic Conference

The WAC was formed in 1962 and is comprised of 14 member institutions – Abilene Christian University; California Baptist University; Grand Canyon University; Lamar University; New Mexico State University; Sam Houston State University; Seattle University; Southern Utah University: Stephen F. Austin State University; Tarleton State University; The University of Texas at Arlington; The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley; Utah Tech University and Utah Valley University. The WAC crowns team and individual champions in 20 sports – 10 men's and 10 women's championships.
