2023 WAC Women's Cross Country Championship Results
ABILENE, Texas – California Baptist captured a fourth straight men’s title and Utah Valley brought home the women’s hardware at the 2023 Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Cross Country Championships on Friday morning at Zoe Park.
The Lancers scored 17 team points in the men’s 8K to defeat runner-up Utah Valley (57 points). Southern Utah (67 points), UT Arlington (152 points) and Utah Tech (165 points) comprised the remainder of the 8K top five. Utah Valley won the women’s 6K for the fourth time overall after scoring 30 points, besting other top-five finishers CBU (36 points), UT Arlington (92 points), Southern Utah (115 points) and Grand Canyon (134 points).
Arturs Medveds from CBU was the fourth straight men’s 8K individual champion representing the Lancers, logging a time of 23:37.90. Other members of the all-conference first team were CBU’s Giedrus Valincius (second, 23:38.00), CBU’s Valentin Soca (third, 23:38.10), CBU’s Matias Reynaga (fourth, 23:42.70), Utah Valley’s Guled Mohamid (fifth, 23:45.00), Southern Utah’s Jacob Peterson (sixth, 23:51.70), CBU’s Rikus Van Niekerk (seventh 23:54.80), Southern Utah’s Travis Feeny (eighth, 23:57.30), Utah Valley’s Abdulsalam Farah (ninth, 23:59.10) and Utah Valley’s Gilbert Olivas (10th, 24:12.00).
Greta Karinauskaite from CBU brought home the first individual women’s 6K crown for the Lancers since 2020, clocking a winning time of 19:49.80. Joining Karinauskaite on the all-conference first team was Utah Valley’s Ari Trimble (second, 20:22.60), CBU’s Grace McLaughlin (third, 20:24.20), UT Arlington’s Matro Jepkemboi (fourth, 20:33.40), Utah Valley’s Morgan Nokes (fifth, 20:35.00), Utah Valley’s Anna Martin (sixth, 20:38.70), Utah Valley's Lydia Beus (seventh, 20:42.60), CBU’s Marina Trave (eighth, 20:47.10) Southern Utah’s Sariah Hernandez (ninth, 20:49.60) and Utah Valley’s Abbie Fuhriman (10th, 20:50.40).
