CBU’s Karinauskaite Earns All-America Honors Representing WAC At 2023 NCAA DI Cross Country Championships

2023 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships Results

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va
. – California Baptist’s Greta Karinauskaite, the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Year, capped a fantastic 2023 season at the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships on Saturday at the Panorama Farms Cross Country Course.
 
Karinauskaite finished the women’s championship 6K with a time of 19:39.4 in 17th place, capturing All-America honors and posting the best individual finish by a WAC women’s student-athlete at the NCAA Championships since 2014. CBU placed 17th as a team after scoring 414 points, believed to be the best team showing by a WAC women’s lineup at the national meet since 1998. Yasna Petrova finished in 45th place with a time of 20:08.2 and Emilia Mikszuta placed 121st with a time of 20:49.3. Other scoring times for the Lancers included Marina Trave (157th place, 21:04.9) and Abir Reffas (179th place, 21:16.7).
 
Reigning WAC women’s team champion Utah Valley finished 23rd at the NCAA Championships after scoring 501 points. Point scorers for the Wolverines included Morgan Nokes (68th place, 20:28.5), Abbie Fuhriman (123rd place, 20:49.9), Ari Trimble (127th place, 20:51.3), Anna Martin (147th place, 20:58.6) and Lydia Beus (172nd place, 21:12.0).
 
UT Arlington’s Matro Jepkemboi, competing unattached as an automatic individual qualifier, placed 85th in the women’s national championship 6K. The WAC Cross Country Freshman of the Year clocked a time of 20:33.8.
 
In the men’s championship 10K, CBU logged the best men’s team finish by a WAC member since the 1995 NCAA meet after compiling 430 points to register a 16th place showing. WAC Cross Country Men’s Athlete of the Year Arturs Medveds led the way for the Lancers in 52nd place with a time of 30:01.3. Other point scorers for CBU in the 10K included Valentin Soca (86th place, 30:26.7), Giedrius Valincius (96th place, 30:31.8), Matias Reynaga (140th place, 30:57.5) and Joaquin Campos (145th place, 30:58.6).
