2024 WAC SB Release - Week Seven
UTAH VALLEY ATOP OF CONFERENCE STANDINGS
After the first week of conference play, Utah Valley swept Tarleton State at home, finishing the week 3-0. Grand Canyon, Southern Utah and Utah Tech are all tied for second, while California Baptist and UT Arlington are in third with a WAC record of 1-1.
MARLEY ACTING GNARLY
UT Arlington’s
Marley Neises claimed WAC Player of the Week after she batted .700 last week with six RBI and two home runs against Houston Christian and California Baptist. She finished with a team-high of seven hits as both home runs came from UTA’s WAC series opening-doubleheader against CBU on Friday, Mar. 15. Neises improved her overall batting average to .303 on the season with three multi-hit performances in all three games.
BROWN COMING UP BIG
Stephen F. Austin’s
Aydenne Brown earned WAC Pitcher of the Week after she pitched two complete games against Texas Southern and Southern Utah. In her 14 innings pitched last week, she allowed five hits and three runs while recording nine strikeouts in each game (18 strikeouts overall). Brown ended the week with a 2-0 record and a 1.50 ERA on 178 pitches.
WACKED AGAIN
Grand Canyon gained another Wacked to its resume as the Lopes took down Oregon State 7-3.
Ashley Trierweiler set a game-high for hits going 4-for-4.
Katelyn Dunckel had two home runs,
Kristin Fifield recorded one home run.
Meghan Golden improved to 5-2 after a three-inning performance with five strikeouts.
Ariel Thompson and
Hailey Hudson made appearances in the circle as well, for a committee total of only five hits.
GAMES TO WATCH
Utah Valley and Grand Canyon will go head-to-head this weekend as the Wolverines and Lopes will compete for the top spot in the WAC. On Tuesday, March 26, Southern Utah travels to Utah, while Utah Tech host BYU. Seattle U will host Oregon State on Wednesday, March 27.
