ARLINGTON, Texas – Grand Canyon earned its seventh Western Athletic Conference (WAC) baseball regular-season title and was officially slotted as the top seed for the 2024 University Credit Union WAC Baseball Tournament following the conference’s final day of regular season play on Saturday. The Lopes will headline eight teams vying for the tournament championship on May 21-25 at Hohokam Stadium in Mesa, Arizona.
 
GCU logged a 34-21 (23-7 WAC, .767) mark during the regular season and won seven of the final 10 games overall to place at the top of the WAC standings. The Lopes finished the 2024 regular season with a series win at Utah Valley after locking up the one seed against Abilene Christian May 10-12. GCU previously captured the 2021 WAC tournament after finishing as co-champions in that regular season.
 
Abilene Christian (32-23, 18-12 WAC, .600) secured the second tournament seed after finishing in a three-way tie with Utah Valley (28-27, 18-12 WAC, .600) and California Baptist (34-22, 18-12 WAC, .600) in the final regular season standings. Since the three teams each claimed one series against the other (matching 3-3 round-robin records), conference policy stipulates that the team(s) with the highest winning percentage against the next highest common opponent in the standings advance to the next tiebreaker. ACU and Utah Valley each claimed one game against first place GCU while CBU was swept in its three-game series, eliminating the Lancers from the tiebreaker as the fourth seed. ACU won its head-to-head series against Utah Valley on March 28-30 to drop the Wolverines to the third seed.

Remaining tournament seeds included No. 5 Tarleton State (27-28, 17-13 WAC, .567), No. 6 UT Arlington (22-33, 16-14 WAC, .533), No. 7 UTRGV (27-23, 15-15 WAC, .500) and No. 8 Sacramento State (26-30, 14-16 WAC, .467).
 
The 2024 University Credit Union WAC Baseball Tournament will begin with a pair of single-elimination opening round games featuring No. 6 UT Arlington against No. 7 UTRGV at noon MST and No. 5 Tarleton State and No. 8 Sacramento State at 4 p.m. MST on May 21 at Hohokam Stadium. Double elimination begins the following day when No. 3 Utah Valley faces the game one winner at noon MST and No. 4 CBU matches up with the game two winner at 4 p.m. MST on May 22. No. 2 ACU makes its tournament debut against the game three winner at 9 a.m. MST before No. 1 GCU squares off with the game four winner at noon MST on May 23 before a pair of elimination games take place at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. MST that night.
 
After three semifinal games at noon, 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. MST on May 24, the championship game of the 2024 University Credit Union WAC Baseball Tournament is scheduled for May 25 at 3 p.m. MST. The ‘if necessary’ game (if both remaining teams in the field have one loss) would follow at 7 p.m. MST. All tournament games will air live on ESPN+.
