MESA, Ariz. – It took the full 13 games, but a performance for the ages delivered Tarleton State its first conference tournament championship in its Division I era. The No. 5 seed Texans bounced back from an 8-4 loss at the hands of No. 4 seed California Baptist to kick off Saturday to defeat the Lancers 9-1 in the final game of the weekend and capture the 2024 University Credit Union WAC Baseball Tournament at Hohokam Stadium.
The Texans finished the week with a 5-1 record, winning a single-elimination game against No. 8 Sacramento State on May 21 to play their way into the main draw before carrying an undefeated mark into the championship series. Tarleton State became the fourth team from the state of Texas to capture the WAC baseball tournament title, joining Rice (1997-99), UTSA (2013) and Sam Houston (2023).
Tarleton State got off to a fast start in the championship game with one run in the top of the first before breaking things open with four in the top of the third frame.
