ST. GEORGE, Utah – The Western Athletic Conference (WAC) determined its league qualifiers for the 2025 ITA Conference Masters Championship following three days of play at the 2025 WAC Tennis Invitational at the Trailblazer Tennis Courts. The 2025 ITA Conference Masters Championship will be held on Nov. 6-9 in San Diego, California, and will have a draw of 30 singles players and doubles teams from across NCAA Division I conferences. From this, four players (4) will qualify for the NCAA Singles Championship and three doubles teams will qualify for the NCAA Doubles Championship on Nov. 18-23 in Orlando, Florida.

Tarleton State’s Maria Castano became the second straight Texan to capture the singles draw at the  WAC Tennis Invitational, sweeping through the competition in straight sets. Castano downed No. 8 Sofia Selle from UT Arlington 6-4, 6-3 in the quarterfinals, No. 4 Mariana Zurita Berdecio from Utah Tech 6-3, 6-0 in the semifinals and No. 3 Masha Vrsalovic from Abilene Christian 6-4, 6-1 in the invitational final.

Other multi-match singles winners during the invitational included No. 2 seed Emma Persson from Tarleton State, who defeated No. 7 Tasnime Ahamout from UT Arlington 6-2, 6-0 in the quarterfinals and No. 4 Zurita Berdecio 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-8) in the third-place match. No. 6 Maya Inouye from Utah Tech closed the weekend with consecutive wins against UT Arlington’s Ahamout, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (8-6) and Selle, 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-6).

The Tarleton State pair of Castano and Aya Ishii captured the conference’s automatic doubles bid to the ITA Conference Masters with an unbeaten showing. The second-seeded Texans defeated No. 3 seed Zurita Berdecio and Inouye from Utah Tech 6-3, 6-3 in the semifinal round before downing top-seeded Alice Klinteby and Vrsalovic from Abilene Christian 6-3, 7-6 (11-9) in the invitational final.
