2025 WAC Men's Soccer Release - NCAA Tournament

GCU CAPTURES FINAL WAC MEN’S SOCCER TOURNAMENT TITLE IN A THRILLER

The 2025 WAC Men’s Soccer Tournament did not disappoint, sending the sport out on a high note during the final men’s soccer postseason tournament in the conference’s history. No. 3 seed Grand Canyon downed No. 6 Utah Valley 1-0 in the quarterfinal round, No. 2 Utah Tech 5-0 in the semifinal round and No. 4 San José State 2-1 in the championship final to capture its second WAC tournament crown in men’s soccer. The Lopes will travel to UCLA for the opening round of the 2025 NCAA tournament on Nov. 20 in Los Angeles.

DIOUF LEADS STAR STUDDED ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM
Grand Canyon forward and 2025 WAC Offensive Player/Freshman of the Year Junior Diouf added WAC Men’s Soccer Tournament Most Outstanding Player to his debut season honors list after helping guide the Lopes to a conference tournament title. Diouf was the leading scorer in the tournament, scoring three goals and adding two assists over three matches. Diouf enters the NCAA tournament as the Division I leader with 17 goals scored. Diouf led six GCU all-tournament honorees, being joined by Ben Assane, Felipe Cobian, Viggo Gustavsson, Daniel Ibarra and Charles Volcy.

SJSU MAKES RECORD SETTING WAC TOURNAMENT APPEARANCE
San José State made a 13th all-time appearance at the 2025 WAC Men’s Soccer Tournament, marking the most trips to the soccer championship in conference history. San José State officially played in the most matches of any team during WAC tournament play, posting a combined record of 10-11-4 (.480) across 25 tournament matches from 1997 through 2025. The Spartans defeated three different number one seeds in the semifinal round during its conference run, appearing in the WAC championship match six times to equal the most title game berths in the tournament with six-time champion Seattle U.

THE WAC IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT
WAC programs have previously reached the third round of the NCAA tournament twice (Seattle U in 2015, Air Force in 2018) and the NCAA quarterfinals on two occasions (Fresno State in 1996, SMU in 1997). WAC programs have advanced at least one round in 10 prior NCAA men’s soccer tournaments since 1996.
