2025 UCU WAC Baseball Tournament Championship Box Score
MESA, Ariz. – The best team all week continued its strong play on championship Saturday at the 2025 University Credit Union Western Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament. No. 3 seed Utah Valley capped an undefeated tournament with an 11-9 comeback win over No. 2 seed Abilene Christian at Hohokam Stadium.
The Wolverines were the first undefeated tournament winner at the WAC tournament since 2022. Utah Valley batted .338 as a team over the course of a 4-0 tournament run, outscoring the opposition 40-18 for the week. The Wolverines also combined to throw the first no-hitter in WAC tournament history during the semifinal round against top seeded Sacramento State.
Utah Valley catcher Mason Strong was named tournament Most Outstanding Player after batting .550 with two home runs, seven RBIs, three stolen bases and seven runs scored along with catching the combined no-hitter. Joining Strong on the WAC All-Tournament Team from Utah Valley was CJ Colyer, Colton Kennedy, Corbin Kirk, Dominic Longo II and Jayden Smith.
Other all-tournament Team choices included Xavier Melendez from UT Arlington, and Chandler Benson, Diego Cardenas, Zandt Payne, Dominick Reid and Grant Watkins from Abilene Christian.
ACU raced out to a 4-1 lead after three innings in the championship game before Utah Valley stormed back with five runs in the fourth to take a 6-4 lead. ACU’s Watkins hit back-to-back home runs in the sixth and seventh innings to help bring the Wildcats within one at 9-8, and a sacrifice fly tied the game at 9-9 heading to the ninth inning. Strong, after blasting off for a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning, crushed a game-winning two-run bomb to left field in the top of the ninth to put Utah Valley ahead for good.
