ARLINGTON, Texas – Grand Canyon captured the 2024-25 Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Commissioner’s Cup after a strong finish to conclude the spring competitive season.

The WAC awards its Commissioner's Cup to the school that performs the best in a countable 14 of the conference's 20 men's and women's sponsored sports from an academic year. Points are awarded by aggregate scoring based on regular season and/or championship finishes depending on the sport and the number of institutions that sponsor the sport. An institution that does not sponsor a specific sport does not receive any points for that sport.

Only the regular season was counted for the sports of baseball and softball during the spring of 2025. For the sports of golf, tennis and outdoor track & field, points were determined using the WAC Championship results based on the per sport scoring system. Affiliates are used as a placeholder in the standings or championship results but are not scored in the overall Commissioner’s Cup standings.

Grand Canyon earned an NCAA AQ in softball and was awarded two bonus points, while Utah Valley received two bonus points as the baseball NCAA AQ. Seattle U represented the conference in men’s golf and Tarleton State in women’s golf at NCAA championships, and Abilene Christian in men’s tennis and GCU in women’s tennis captured automatic bids to the postseason as WAC tournament champions.

GCU registered 116.8 points to win the WAC Commissioner’s Cup for the seventh time. The Lopes were the regular season and tournament champion in softball and won a women’s tennis tournament championship in the spring to register two scores of 11 points. GCU also swept the women’s basketball regular season and conference tournament to earn the full 11 points and finished second in the men’s basketball regular season before claiming bonus points following a third straight WAC Tournament title on the way to a fifth straight Commissioner’s Cup.

Utah Valley checked in with 104.5 points and finished in second place in the standings after winning the University Credit Union WAC Baseball Tournament in Arizona and sweeping the outdoor track & field championships in Arlington during the spring. The Wolverines defended the conference women’s indoor track & field crown and won a regular season championship in men’s basketball during the winter and added women’s cross country championship and women’s soccer regular season titles in the fall slate.

Tarleton State leapt up to third place and closed with 94.1 points buoyed by a women’s golf tournament championship, the first conference title for the Texans at the Division I level. Tarleton State also enjoyed top three finishes in softball, women’s indoor and outdoor track & field and women’s basketball during the 2024-25 competition year.

Other final scores for 2024-25 included Abilene Christian in fourth place with 87.4 points. California Baptist was fifth with 87.3 points, UT Arlington was sixth with 79.3 points, Seattle U was seventh with 67.3 points, Southern Utah was eighth with 52.7 points, and Utah Tech rounded out the standings with 42.6 points.
