No. 2 CBU Downs No. 1 Utah Valley 63-61 To Win The 2026 WAC Men’s Basketball Tournament

– Facing a 59-52 deficit with just under three minutes to play, No. 2 seed California Baptist embarked on a program-defining 11-2 run to stun top-seeded Utah Valley 63-61 to win the 2026 Air Force Reserve WAC Basketball Tournament Saturday night in a raucous Orleans Arena.

With the victory, the Lancers earned their first WAC Tournament title in men’s basketball and first NCAA tournament bid at the Division I level. Only one top-seeded team managed to capture the WAC men’s basketball title in the final four years that the tournament was held.

WAC Player of the Year Dominique Daniels Jr., fresh off a 41-point semifinal performance against Utah Tech, erupted with three made 3-pointers in the final 1:57 to finish with a game-high 23 points. Daniels added three assists, a blocked shot and two steals in the CBU win. Over two games the graduate guard averaged 32.0 points and 11 made field goals per contest in the tournament.

Jayden Jackson joined Daniels on the conference’s all-tournament team after averaging 12.0 points and 4.0 rebounds for CBU. Trevan Leonhardt (8.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists per game) and Jackson Holcombe (16.0 points, 3.5 rebounds per game) represented Utah Valley on the all-tournament team. Utah Tech’s Ethan Potter (25.0 points per game, 70.0 field goal percentage) was also recognized as an all-tournament performer.
