MESA, Ariz. – The 34th edition of the University Credit Union WAC Baseball Tournament is underway. This is the 15th time the WAC post season tournament is being held at Hohokam Stadium.
Game 1 – No. 3 Utah Tech 4, No. 6 UT Arlington 0 (Box Score)
Utah Tech secured a 4–0 victory over UT Arlington at Hohokam Stadium as the Trailblazers pitching staff delivered a standout performance, allowing only four hits and no runs over nine innings. With this win, Utah Tech advances to the next round of the tournament.
Tyler Ray stood out on the mound for Utah Tech, delivering an impressive performance with eight innings pitched, allowing four hits, and striking out three without conceding any runs. Ray credits his teammates for his performance. "Just getting ahead (in the count) and trusting my defense will make the plays behind me," said Ray.
Hudson Manwaring made a significant impact with his bat, securing two hits, including a double, and scoring a run. Also at the plate,
Miller Durham contributed with two hits and an RBI, while also crossing home plate once.
Ryan Kroepel drew two walks while scoring a run, and pitched an inning of scoreless relief with one strikeout. UTU will play Thursday against No. 2-seed California Baptist at 11 a.m MST.
Game 2 – No. 4 Sacramento State 9, No. 5 Abilene Christian 4 (Box Score)
Sacramento State won the second game of the tournament 9–4 over Abilene Christian with a strong offensive performance highlighted by 12 hits with six doubles.
Jace Jeremiah led the way for Sacramento State, blasting a home run with three RBIs and scoring two runs.
Ryan Ellis tied a school record with three doubles while adding two RBIs. ACU's
Diego Cardenas hit his 25th home run of the season, matching Grayson Tatrow for the Wildcats single-season home run record. Abilene Christian will play in an elimination game against UT Arlington at 7 pm MST. The Hornets will take on No. 1 Tarleton State at 3 pm MST on Thursday.
Game 3 (Elimination Game) – No. 5 Abilene Christian 5, No. 6 UT Arlington 3
Aidan Coleman pitched eight innings to get the win as
Brady Coe closed things out to get the save and keep ACU alive in the night cap. The Wildcats scored in a variety of ways, including a double steal, two sacrifice flies, and a bases loaded walk to advance to the quarterfinal round of the WAC Baseball Tournament at 7 pm MST on Friday against the loser of game four. UTA was lead by
Xavier Melendez who smacked two home runs while going 2-4 with three RBI. The Mavericks close the season with a record of 19-32.
