No. 1 California Baptist to Play No. 2 Tarleton State in the 2026 University Credit Union WAC Softball Tournament Championship Game

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – No. 1 California Baptist will take on No. 2 Tarleton State in the 2026 University Credit Union WAC Softball Tournament Championship Game after the Lancers and Texans won their semifinal games on Friday. California Baptist locked the first spot in the finale by defeating Tarleton State 12-4 in the first semifinal game of the day. The Texans rallied back in the loser’s bracket, defeating No. 4 Utah Valley 8-4 in the second semifinal to make their way into the championship game.

The Lancers and Texans will fight for the WAC trophy and for an automatic bid to the NCAA regionals at 1 p.m. CT on Saturday, May 9. The Texans will need to defeat the Lancers twice to claim the tournament title.

Game 7 – No. 1 California Baptist 12, No. 2 Tarleton State 4 (5 inn.) | Box Score

California Baptist didn’t let a three-hour weather delay halt any momentum as the Lancers scored six runs in the second inning en route to a dominant 12-4 run-rule victory. Mikayla Medellin played a big role in the Lancers’ second-inning rally by hitting a three-run homer, her 14th of the season. Sydney Peterson launched her first home run of the season with a solo shot in the fourth inning. Four Lancers posted multiple hits in the game, led by Kenzie Farrier-Pilon who went 3-for-3 with two doubles, four RBIs and three runs scored. Seven different Lancers recorded at least one hit and one run. Emily Darwin picked up the win for CBU after three innings of work in the pitching circle, surrendering just one earned run.

Casey Schultz drove in all three Tarleton State runs with a three-run blast in the first inning, her 13th homer on the year. Macie Vickers recorded a hit in each of her at-bats, going 3-for-3 at the plate with a run scored.

Game 8 – No. 4 Utah Valley 2, No. 5 Southern Utah 1 | Box Score
 
For the second time this tournament, Lily Riley went the distance in the pitching circle for Utah Valley and threw a complete game against Southern Utah. Riley’s performance marked the third complete game of the tournament for the Wolverines, as she struck out five batters and allowed just one earned run in seven innings of work. Utah Valley’s two runs came from a pair of solo home runs from Britney Moreno in the third inning and Tatum Hall in the fourth inning.

Taralyn Ollison and Kassidy Munoz each recorded a couple of hits for Southern Utah with Ollison driving in the Thunderbirds only run in the fifth inning with an RBI single.

Game 9 – No. 2 Tarleton State 8, No. 4 Utah Valley 4 | Box Score

Shelby Schultz threw a complete game for Tarleton State with eight strikeouts against Utah Valley, her second complete game in as many days. The Texans strung together four hits, a pair of walks, a hit-by-pitch and a sacrifice fly for a six-run second inning to take control of the lead for the remainder of the game. Macie Vickers was one of eight Texans to record a hit in the game as she went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run scored.

Utah Valley’s Tatum Hall began the scoring with a solo home run in the second inning, her second home run of the tournament. Ry Binne had a 2-for-3 game at the plate with an RBI single in the fifth inning, followed by Payge Armendariz who knocked in two runs with a single in the sixth inning.
