DENVER – Grand Canyon senior forward Michael Finke has been named Western Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 24-March 3. This is his second WAC Player of the Week honor of the season and of his career.

The Champaign, Ill., native led the WAC in scoring last week, averaging 32.0 points on 67.7 percent shooting to go with 9.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists as the Lopes went 2-0 on the week. Finke opened the week with a career-best 38 points vs. Eastern New Mexico last Wednesday. He hit 14-of-20 shots from the field, including a career-high six three-pointers, to go along with eight rebounds and six assists. Finke's 38 points were the second-most by a GCU player in the Division I era and the most points scored in a game by a WAC player this season. On Saturday vs. CSU Bakersfield, he scored 24 of his team-high 26 points in the second half after the Lopes rallied from a nine-point deficit with 12:28 left in the game. When he tied the game at 51 on a layup, he scored 14 consecutive Grand Canyon points in a span of 3:39. With 10 rebounds against the Runners, Finke also recorded his first double-double of the season and just the fourth of his career.

Other nominees included: California Baptist's Milan Acquaah averaged 22.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.5 steals over two games last week ... Jarkel Joiner of CSU Bakersfield finished with 29 points, three rebounds, two assists and one steal in a loss to Grand Canyon ... Chicago State's Travon Bell finished with 26 points, two rebounds and one assist in a five-point loss to UT Rio Grande Valley ... Brandon McKissic of Kansas City averaged 13.5 points, 2.5 assists and 2.0 rebounds over two games last week ... NM State's Ivan Aurrecoechea averaged 13.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals as the Aggies went 2-0 on the week and won the WAC regular-season title outright ... Morgan Means of Seattle U averaged 18.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists as the Redhawks went 1-1 on the week ... UT Rio Grande Valley's Javon Levi averaged 14.0 points, 8.0 assists, 3.5 steals and 2.5 rebounds as the Vaqueros went 2-0 on the week ... Jake Toolson of Utah Valley averaged 16.0 points and 4.0 rebounds as the Wolverines went 2-0 on the week.
