2019 CBI Bracket
Three WAC men's basketball teams – California Baptist, Grand Canyon and Utah Valley – have accepted invitations to play in the 16-team College Basketball Invitational (CBI).
Utah Valley (24-9) will host CSUN (13-20) on Tuesday, March 19, while California Baptist (16-14) will host Loyola Marymount (20-11) on Wednesday, March 20, and Grand Canyon (20-13) will travel to face West Virginia (14-20), also on Wednesday.
This is Utah Valley's fifth postseason appearance and third consecutive CBI appearance. The Wolverines played in the NIT in 2014 and the CIT in 2012. The Wolverines are led by WAC Player of the Year Jake Toolson, who averages 15.8 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. UVU holds a 13-1 record this season and is a combined 29-2 record at the UCCU Center over the past two seasons.
California Baptist is in its first season transitioning to Division I and finished tied for fifth in the WAC standings. The Lancers are led by WAC Newcomer of the Year Milan Acquaah, who averages 19.2 points per game.
Grand Canyon fell in the WAC Tournament championship game to top-seeded NM State. This is Grand Canyon's fifth Division I postseason appearance and second in the CBI. The Lopes are led by first team All-WAC honoree Michael Finke, who averages 12.2 points and 5.1 rebounds per game, and second team All-WAC selection Carlos Johnson, who averages 14.6 points and 4.1 rebounds per game.
The CBI is a single-elimination tournament up until the best-of-three Finals, with all games played at campus sites. After the first round games, the quarterfinal round will take place on March 25, followed by the semifinal round on March 27 or 28. Prior to the semifinals, the remaining teams will be re-bracketed. The finals series is a best-of-three in which one team will host two of the three games. Those games will be played on April 1, 3 and 5.
