CSUB, Seattle U and UTRGV to Play in CIT

Three WAC men's basketball teams – CSU Bakersfield, Seattle U and UT Rio Grande Valley – have accepted invitations to play in the Tournament (CIT).

Seattle U hosts Presbyterian at 7 p.m. PT on Wednesday, March 20, while UTRGV hosts Grambling State at 7 p.m. CT also on Wednesday. CSU Bakersfield will play at Cal State Fullerton at 7 p.m. PT on Thursday, March 21.

CSUB is making third postseason appearance in the last four seasons and fifth in its Division I history. The Runners played in the CIT in 2012, the NCAA Tournament in 2016 and the NIT in 2017. CSUB is led by first team All-WAC honoree Jarkel Joiner, who averages 16.1 points and 3.5 rebounds per game.

Seattle U is making its fourth postseason appearance in the last five years as the team participated in the College Basketball Invitational (CBI) three times. Morgan Means paces the Redhawks with 14.2 points, while Terrell Brown adds 13.9 points, 6.8 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game.

UTRGV is participating in a postseason tournament for the second straight year after taking part in the CBI last year. This is its first postseason home game since the program joined the Division I ranks. The Vaqueros are led by WAC Defensive Player of the Year Javon Levi, who averages 2.83 steals per game and has 99 steals on the year, good for third place all-time in the WAC record books.

The CIT uses the old NIT model in which there is no set bracket. Future round opponents are determined by the results of the previous round. All games are at on-campus sites.

A complete schedule of games will be available at

The first two rounds run March 18-25, while the quarterfinals are set for March 27-31. The semifinals take place on April 2 and the championship is scheduled for April 4.
