DENVER – Grand Canyon's Daniil Antipov and Wyoming's Ryan Russi have been named Western Athletic Conference Men's Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, for Jan. 1-7.
Antipov, a senior from Krasnoyarsk, Russia, recorded the top time in the 100 butterfly in the WAC this season. He posted a time of 47.66 to earn the top spot in the conference and snag a first-place finish over California Baptist and Wyoming. Antipov also finished first in the 200 butterfly recording a 1:50.82 and helped the 200 medley relay to first touching the wall at 1:31.34. Grand Canyon defeated California Baptist 175-125 and Wyoming 157-143.
Russi, a senior from Murrieta, Calif., tallied 18 points for the Cowboys in a 163.50-136.50 win over California Baptist. He finished first on both boards scoring 290.40 points on the 1-meter and 294.80 on the 3-meter. His score on the 1-meter dive was a season-best and he won the 3-meter dive by more than ten points.
Other swimmer nominees: Brandon Schuster of California Baptist posted four individual wins throughout two meets including wins over Grand Canyon and Wyoming… Seattle U's Mitchell Crossen recorded four wins in a team victory over Whitworth College… Liam Holt of Wyoming scored 13 points in a win over Incarnate Word and won the 200 breaststroke at two separate meets.
Other diver nominees: Garret Chew of California Baptist won both dives in a dual against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps… CSU Bakersfield's Adam Estrella finished second in the 1-meter and first in the 3-meter against UC San Diego.
