DENVER – CSU Bakersfield's Loren Gillilan and UNLV's Jesse Cawley have been named Western Athletic Conference Men's Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, for Jan. 15-21.
Gillilan, a sophomore from Fort Collins, Colo., won the 100 and 200 butterfly events and also helped the 'Runners to first-place finishes in the 400 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay. He won the 100 butterfly with a time of 47.85, the second-best time in the WAC this season. In the 200 butterfly, Gillilan recorded a time of 1:49.13 and ranks sixth-best in the conference.
Cawley, a sophomore from Portland, Ore., competed against 12 other teams at the UCLA Dive Invite where he placed in the finals in all three events. His best finish came in the 3-meter dive as he earned fourth with 314.7 points. In the platform dive, Cawley scored 296.9 points for seventh place. He rounded out the performance earning 251.8 points and 16th in the 1-meter.
Other swimmer nominees: Scott Tolman of California Baptist earned three top-three finishes in a dual against UC San Diego including a win in the 200 breaststroke... UNLV's Michal Cukanow holds the third-fastest time in the WAC in the 200 butterfly and sixth-best in the 100 butterfly.
Other diver nominees: California Baptist's Garret Chew snagged two first-place finishes in a dual against UC San Diego and competed in the UCLA Diving Invite where he earned a 10th and 18th place finish.
