DENVER – UNLV's Ivan Zukov and Wyoming's Ryan Russi have been named Western Athletic Conference Men's Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, for Jan. 29-Feb. 4.
Zukov, a freshman from Minsk, Belarus, won three individual events and led the 400 medley relay to a runner-up finish. He won the 100 breaststroke (56.90), the 200 breaststroke (2:03.10), and the 400 individual medley (4:00.38). His 400 individual medley time was a personal-best as he led the Rebels to a 152-144 victory over Grand Canyon.
Russi, a senior from Murrieta, Calif., placed second and fourth at the Air Force Diving Invite. He finished second on the platform dive with a total score of 569.20. Russi combined a prelim score of 320.90 and final score of 327.15 for a fourth-place finish on the 3-meter dive.
Other swimmer nominees: Daniil Antipov of Grand Canyon swept the butterfly events in a narrow loss to UNLV… Seattle U's Greg Raper snagged three golds in the 50 freestyle, 100 butterfly, and 200 medley relay.
Other diver nominees: California Baptist's Garret Chew posted two top-20 finishes at the Air Force Diving Invite finishing sixth on the platform… Pietro Hufnagel Toscani of Grand Canyon won the 1-meter and took second on the 3-meter board against UNLV… UNLV's Tazman Abramowicz took gold on the 3-meter dive and earned runner-up on the 1-meter.
