DENVER- Grand Canyon's Lucas Grego and Chicago State's Katarina Drazic, and Chicago State's doubles team Katarina Drazic and Diana Borodina have been named the Men's and Women's Western Athletic Conference Tennis Athletes of the Week, respectively, for March 5-11.
Grego, a senior from Longwy, France, improved his singles record to 10-1 with two wins this weekend. He first defeated an opponent from Fresno State 6-2, 6-2. Grego followed with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Enrique Asmar of NM State.
Drazic, a sophomore from Sarasota, Fla., moved to the No. 2 position and clinched two matches for the Cougars. She won against Eastern Illinois 6-3, 0-6, 6-4 and Detroit 6-1, 7-5.
Drazic and Diana Borodina, a freshman from Moscow, Russia, have now won three of their last four matches. Their most recent wins came against Eastern Illinois 7-6 (9-7) and Detroit, 6-4.
Other male singles nominees: Chicago State's Gonzalo Martinez won 6-3, 6-1 to clinch for the Cougars over Eastern Illinois.
Other female singles nominees: Grand Canyon's Emilia Occhipinti clinched the team win for the Lopes against Portland winning 2-6, 6-2, 7-6.
Other female doubles nominees: Celia Morel and Autum Prudhomme of Grand Canyon won their third match in a row 6-0 against Portland.
