WAC Softball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week Announced

Kansas City's Chyanne Onstad and California Baptist's Kellye Springstead have been named the Western Athletic Conference Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for March 4-10. This is the first-ever honor for both.

Onstad, a junior infielder from Burlington, Wis., hit .500 with a .900 slugging percentage and a .643 on-base percentage at the Kansas Invitational last week. She tallied one run, a double, a home run, three RBIs and four walks. Onstad, who is on a five-game hitting streak with hits in seven of the last eight games, opened the tournament with a 2-for-4 showing vs. Maine. In a win over Kansas on Sunday, she was 1-for-1 with a home run, two RBIs and three walks.

Springstead, a senior right-hander from Honolulu, Hawai'i, went 4-1 and threw four complete games in four starts and five appearances last week. She posted a 0.72 ERA and struck out 24 batters with just four walks. Springstead scattered 28 hits over 29.0 innings and allowed just three earned runs on the week. She threw an eight-inning shutout in a 3-0 win over North Dakota on Friday, giving up four hits and one walk while striking out 10. She did not give up more than one earned run in any one start.

Other Hitter of the Week nominees included: Halle Rosario of California Baptist hit .440 with one double, two home runs and eight RBIs ... CSU Bakersfield's Karah Wiseman went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and a stolen base in a loss to CSUN ... Savannah Tourville of Grand Canyon hit .286 with three doubles, including two in a win over No. 1 and previously unbeaten Florida State, and three RBIs ... NM State's Kelsey Horton hit .263 with four of her five hits being homers, eight RBIs and three walks and broke the career total base record with 452 ... Breanna Timmons of Seattle U hit .455 with three doubles and two RBIs ... Utah Valley's Lyndsay Steverson hit .625 with two doubles, a home run and six RBIs.

Other Pitcher of the Week nominees included: Grand Canyon's Yesenia Morrison went 1-2 and earned the win over No. 1 Florida State ... D.J. Cannon of Kansas City went 0-1 with a 2.90 ERA and three strikeouts ... Seattle U's Shianne Smith went 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA and six strikeouts over 7.2 innings.
