WAC Softball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week Announced

NM State's Mya Felder and Samaria Diaz have been named the Western Athletic Conference Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for April 22-28. This is the second honor of the season and of her career for Felder and the third honor of the season and of her career for Diaz.

Felder, a freshman infielder from Fresno, Calif., hit .636 with a 1.727 slugging percentage and a .714 on-base percentage as the Aggies went 4-0 last week. She was 7-of-11 on the week with six extra-base hits – three doubles and three home runs – and 19 total bases. Felder scored seven runs, had seven RBIs and drew three walks. She had a hit in each of the Aggies' four games, including three multi-hit contests. Felder opened the week with a pair of homers at New Mexico and also posted a long ball in the series opener against Kansas City. In Saturday's doubleheader against the Roos, she posted three doubles.

Diaz, a junior right-hander from West Covina, Calif., went 3-0 with a save and a 1.33 ERA in four appearances last week. She tossed three complete games and tallied 40 strikeouts over 21.0 innings pitched. Diaz threw a pair of one hitters at New Mexico and in the series opener against UMKC where she also had 11 strikeouts in each of those games. In the first game of the twinbill Saturday, she picked up the save, going 2.0 innings with five strikeouts, allowing one run on four hits. In the series finale against the Roos, Diaz tied her career-high with 13 strikeouts. With Saturday's save, she moved her season total to six, extending her program record, and her career total to 10, which ranks second in the Aggie record books and tied for fourth all-time in the WAC record books.

Other Hitter of the Week nominees included: California Baptist's Anise Avalos hit .429 with four RBIs as the Lancers went 0-4 on the week ... Sierra Smith of Grand Canyon hit .625 with a home run and four RBIs as the Lopes went 1-2 on the week ... Kansas City's Bre Hunter hit .462 with a double, two home runs and 10 RBIs as the Roos went 0-4 on the week ... Kaylee Ree of Seattle U hit .375 with a double and three RBIs as the Redhawks went 2-1 on the week ... Utah Valley's Lyndsay Steverson hit .455 with a home run and five RBIs as the Wolverines went 3-1 on the week.

Other Pitcher of the Week nominees included: California Baptist's Giana Lopez went 0-2 with a 3.82 ERA over 14.2 innings ... Brianna Aguilar of Grand Canyon posted a 1.62 ERA over 4.1 innings ... Kansas City's DJ Cannon went 0-1 with a 3.65 ERA and five strikeouts over 7.2 innings on the week ... Andie Larkins of Seattle U went 1-0 with a save, a 1.56 ERA and six strikeouts in a pair of appearances ... Utah Valley's Devyn Cretz went 2-1 with a 2.33 ERA and nine strikeouts over 21.0 innings.
