Six WAC Softball Players Earn NFCA All-Region Honors

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Six WAC softball players earned National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region honors today. Seattle U's Ally Choate and Carley Nance earned second team honors, while California Baptist's Caitlyn Lloyd, Grand Canyon's Shea Smith, and NM State's Nikki Butler and Samaria Diaz earned third team honors.

Choate, a first team All-WAC selection, leads the team in batting average (.404) and on base percentage (.462). Entering tomorrow's NCAA Regional, she has posted six doubles, three triples, two home runs and 27 RBIs. She has also stolen six bases this season.

Nance, a first team All-WAC honoree and the WAC Tournament MVP, has a 17-8 record with a 1.97 ERA this year. A one-time WAC Pitcher of the Week honoree, she has posted one shutout and one save and struck out 99 batters over 142.0 innings.

Lloyd, a second team All-WAC honoree, hit .331 to lead the team. She posted seven doubles, three triples, six homers and 21 RBIs. She also stole two bases.

Smith, a first team All-WAC selection and two-time WAC Hitter of the Week, led the Lopes in batting average (.396) and on-base percentage (.450). She posted nine doubles, one triple, four home runs and two RBIs. She also stole eight bases.

Butler, a first team All-WAC honoree and the 2019 WAC Player of the Year, hit .299 with nine doubles, nine home runs and 34 RBIs. She also set the school record for hit by pitch (18).

A first team All-WAC selection and the WAC Pitcher of the Year, Diaz went 16-9 and posted a 2.10 ERA over 177.0 innings. She had eight shutouts and seven saves and tallied 228 strikeouts. She was named WAC Pitcher of the Week three times this season.

A total of 392 players representing 163 different institutions comprise this season's regional teams. The all-region teams were voted on by NFCA member coaches from each respective region.
