DENVER – Grand Canyon's Shanice Lewis and NM State's Taniya Mitchell have been named Western Athletic Conference Women's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for Jan. 15-21.
Lewis, a senior from Clarendon, Jamaica, posted the top time in the WAC for the 60 meter hurdles. Her time of 8.54 earned her first at the Air Force Team Challenge. She also placed second in the long jump with a leap of 5.82 meters to earn the best jump in the conference this season.
Mitchell, a senior from Mt. Vernon, N.Y., recorded a personal best and took home second in the weight throw posting a toss of 17.93 meters. The throw ranks best in the WAC this season and third-best in the Aggie record books.
Other track nominees: Kansas City's Mia Jerman earned second in the 5,000 meter and sits best in the conference with a time of 17:48.01… Keosha Sanders of NM State ran a 7.50 in the 60 meter setting a program record and placing her best in the WAC.
Other field nominees: Kansas City's Traci Mills posted the third best long jump mark in the WAC as she earned third and fifth in the long jump and triple jump.
