WAC Women's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week Announced

DENVER – Grand Canyon's Alexa Hokanson and NM State's Yemisi Oroyinyin have been named Western Athletic Conference Women's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for Feb. 5-11.

Hokanson, a sophomore from Scottsdale, Ariz., leads the WAC in the 800 by over two seconds. She placed second at the Don Kirby Invitational with a time of 2:09.83. Hokanson also broke the school record by over two seconds and is the first female to break the 2:10 mark, with an altitude adjustment, since 2013.

Oroyinyin, a senior from Las Cruces, N.M., shattered the NM State Weight Throw record and moved to best in the conference this season. She finished fourth out of 44 throwers with a 20.16 meter toss.
 
Other track nominees:
 Kansas City's Mia Jerman recorded the third-best WAC time in the 3,000 meter run at 10:01.02… Crissey Amberg of NM State placed second in the mile and 3,000 meter run while snagging the second best time in the mile in the WAC… UT Rio Grande Valley's Ashley Hughes placed sixth in the 200 meter with a time of 24.63.
 
Other field nominees: Kansas City's Matia Finley tossed the shot put 13.06 meters to place ninth and rank eighth in the conference... Idatonye Cheetham-West of UT Rio Grande Valley recorded the second-best long jump in program history at 5.94 meters.
