WAC ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

MEN
Grand Canyon's William Winfield IV and Zach Galgan have been named Western Athletic Conference Men's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for Feb. 5-11.
 
Winfield, a senior from Chandler, Ariz., shaved .05 seconds off his personal-best in the 60 hurdles and leads the WAC by almost .20 seconds. He ran a time of 7.93 seconds which was good for eighth at the Don Kirby Invitational. Winfield is tied for 49th throughout the NCAA.
 
Galgan, a sophomore from Vacaville, Calif., leads the conference after jumping a personal record 5.03 meters in the pole vault. He tied for 16th at the Don Kirby Invitational.
 
Other track nominees: Kansas City's Daylann Quinn recorded the fourth best mile time in school history, second best in the WAC this season… Nathan Pixler of Seattle U notched the fastest 800 time in the conference this season and set a school record… UT Rio Grande Valley's Omer Almog ran the second-fastest mile time in school history at 4:06.85. 
 
Other field nominees: Kansas City's Chris Bryan posted the second-best long jump mark in the WAC at 7.35 meters… Michael Gonzalez of UT Rio Grande Valley took fourth in the Shot Put and Weight Throw. 
 
WOMEN
Grand Canyon's Alexa Hokanson and NM State's Yemisi Oroyinyin have been named Western Athletic Conference Women's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for Feb. 5-11.
 
Hokanson, a sophomore from Scottsdale, Ariz., leads the WAC in the 800 by over two seconds. She placed second at the Don Kirby Invitational with a time of 2:09.83. Hokanson also broke the school record by over two seconds and is the first female to break the 2:10 mark, with an altitude adjustment, since 2013.
 
Oroyinyin, a senior from Las Cruces, N.M., shattered the NM State Weight Throw record and moved to best in the conference this season. She finished fourth out of 44 throwers with a 20.16 meter toss.
 
Other track nominees: Kansas City's Mia Jerman recorded the third-best WAC time in the 3,000 meter run at 10:01.02… Crissey Amberg of NM State placed second in the mile and 3,000 meter run while snagging the second best time in the mile in the WAC… UT Rio Grande Valley's Ashley Hughes placed sixth in the 200 meter with a time of 24.63.
 
Other field nominees: Kansas City's Matia Finley tossed the shot put 13.06 meters to place ninth and rank eighth in the conference... Idatonye Cheetham-West of UT Rio Grande Valley recorded the second-best long jump in program history at 5.94 meters.
