WAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week Announced

DENVER – California Baptist's Britney Thomas has been named Western Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 7 through Jan. 13.

Thomas, a junior forward from San Jacinto, Calif. (San Jacinto HS), had a pair of double-doubles last week as the Lancers lost a close game to Kansas City before earning a big win over Chicago State. Against Kansas City, she scored 25 points to go with 19 rebounds and seven blocks in a 78-74 loss to the Roos. She followed that up with 13 points and 13 rebounds, along with two steals and two blocks, in just 20 minutes in an 89-52 win over Chicago State. On the season, she is fourth in the WAC in scoring at 14.9 points per game and second in rebounding at 11.4 per game.

Other nominees included: Chicago State's Ines Mata Boix had 16 rebounds in a loss at California Baptist … Grand Canyon's ShaRon Miller scored a career-high 24 points to go with eight rebounds in a loss to UT Rio Grande Valley … Kansas City's Ericka Mattingly recorded a career-high 30 points in a comeback win at California Baptist on Thursday … NM State's Brooke Salas recorded her ninth double-double of the season with 16 points and 16 rebounds in a loss at Grand Canyon … UT Rio Grande Valley's Madison Northcutt led the Vaqueros in scoring with 14 points in a 66-50 win at Grand Canyon … Utah Valley's Eve Braslis scored 18 points in a 58-55 road win at Seattle U.
