DENVER – Grand Canyon's Da'jah Daniel has been named Western Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 21 through Jan. 27.
Daniel, a junior forward from Killeen, Texas (Harker Heights HS), was nearly perfect in a 75-71 win over California Baptist. She scored 24 points on 11-of-12 shooting from the field and also brought down 22 rebounds. Both marks are career-highs for the Trinity Valley CC transfer. She ranks second in the WAC in field goal percentage in league play at .545 and her 9.0 rebounds per game against WAC foes rank fifth this season.
Other nominees included: California Baptist's Britney Thomas averaged a double-double on the road with 16.0 ppg and 10.5 rpg in a road split … Kansas City's Leilah Vigil scored 22 points with 16 rebounds in a win over Seattle U to cap a 2-0 week for the Roos … NM State's Brooke Salas notched yet another double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds in a win over UT Rio Grande Valley … Seattle U's Courtney Murphy scored 33 points to help the Redhawks earn their first win of the season in a 90-54 blowout of Chicago State … UT Rio Grande Valley's Idil Turk tied her season-high with 19 points in a loss at NM State on Saturday … Utah Valley's Jordan Holland averaged 15.0 ppg as the Wolverines rebounded from a loss to Kansas City with a win against Chicago State.
