DENVER – NM State's Brooke Salas has been named Western Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Feb. 4 through Feb. 10. It is her fourth time honored this season and her 10th career honor.
Salas, a senior guard from Placentia, Calif. (El Dorado HS), led the Aggies to a pair of home wins to give NM State a two-game lead atop the WAC standings. Against CSU Bakersfield, the guard scored 21 points to go with 12 rebounds, two blocks and two steals in a 61-48 win. She turned on the jets again against Grand Canyon, putting up 25 points to go with 18 rebounds and seven assists, also adding four steals and a block in an 81-52 win over the Lopes. She is averaging 18.9 points per game, a league-best 13.4 rebounds per game in conference play and is also the leader in steals at 2.8 per game against WAC foes.
Other nominees included: California Baptist's Lexy Ram averaged 18.5 ppg in a road sweep as the Lancers earned wins at Chicago State and Kansas City to move into fourth place in the conference standings … Kansas City's Ericka Mattingly had a triple-double with 28 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists in a double-overtime loss to California Baptist on Saturday … UT Rio Grande Valley's Amara Graham set new career-highs in points and rebounds with 18 points against Grand Canyon following an eight-rebound performance at Chicago State … Utah Valley's Jordan Holland led the Wolverines to a home win over Seattle U, scoring 13 points to go with 12 rebounds.
