DENVER – CSU Bakersfield's Ashley Austin has been named Western Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Feb. 11 through Feb. 17.
Austin, a freshman guard from Compton, Calif. (Lynwood HS), stepped up for the 'Runners to help CSUB earn a pair of home wins against Chicago State and Kansas City. Against CSU, she was 4-of-7 from the field with five assists and four steals in an 80-47 win over the Cougars. She then had a career game against Kansas City on Saturday, shooting 9-of-12 from the field, including 3-of-4 from three-point range, and 9-of-10 on free throw attempts on her way to 30 points in an 85-71 win over the Roos. She also added seven rebounds, six assists and three steals in the win over UMKC.
Other nominees included: Grand Canyon's Da'Jah Daniel tallied her third double-double of the season with 16 points and 12 rebounds in a win over Chicago State on Saturday … Kansas City's Leilah Vigil scored 19 points to go with 10 rebounds for her 10th double-double of the season in an 85-71 loss at CSU Bakersfield … NM State's Brooke Salas recorded her 16th and 17th double-doubles of the season in a road sweep at Utah Valley and Seattle U, averaging 24.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per game … UT Rio Grande Valley's Quynne Huggins posted her first double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds in an overtime win at Seattle U on Thursday night … Utah Valley's Jordan Holland averaged 17.0 points per game as the Wolverines split a pair of games at home to stay in third place in the WAC standings.
