DENVER – Kansas City's Ericka Mattingly has been named Western Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Feb. 18 through Feb. 25.
Mattingly, a junior guard from Wichita, Kan. (Wichita South HS), was pivotal in the Roos going 2-0 on the week with home wins over Seattle U and Utah Valley. Against Seattle U, she scored 19 points to go with a career-high 10 steals and eight assists as she narrowly missed her third triple-double of the season. She followed that up with 21 points, seven rebounds, 11 assists and three steals in a 33-point win over Utah Valley. On the season, she is average 18.8 points per game and leads the WAC with 6.3 assists per game and 3.2 steals per game.
Other nominees included: California Baptist's Britney Thomas led the Lancers to an undefeated week, averaging 16.0 ppg and 14.0 rpg in home wins over Grand Canyon and CSU Bakersfield … Chicago State's Ines Mata Boix had an outstanding week for the Cougars, averaging 18.5 points per game in a close loss to Utah Valley and a home win over Seattle U … NM State's Brooke Salas scored 20 points to help the Aggies clinch a share of the regular season title and the top-seed in the upcoming WAC Tournament … UT Rio Grande Valley's Madison Northcutt recorded her ninth double-double of the season with 21 points and 15 rebounds in a close loss to first-place NM State … Utah Valley's Jordan Holland averaged 14.5 ppg and 6.5 rpg as the Wolverines went 1-1 on the road.
