DENVER – Seattle U's Leahi Manthei and CSU Bakersfield's Jordan Bertram have been named the Western Athletic Conference Women's Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, for Oct. 15-21.
Manthei, a sophomore forward from Gig Harbor, Wash. (Gig Harbor), led the Redhawks in a key victory over Kansas City. Seattle U defeated Kansas City 3-1 for their first conference loss of the season. Manthei assisted the first goal of the game to give Seattle U a 1-0 lead. She went on to score a goal in the 78th minute to stretch the lead.
Bertram, a junior goalkeeper from Gig Harbor, Wash. (Gig Harbor), helped CSU Bakersfield shutout California Baptist and NM State. Bertram had four saves against the Lancers in a 1-0 victory. She also had four saves in a 2-0 win over NM State. With the two wins CSU Bakersfield sealed the deal on a spot in the WAC Tournament.
Other offensive nominees: Aminah Settles of CSU Bakersfield scored the game-winning goal against California Baptist and had one against NM State… Kansas City's Rylan Childers scored her sixth goal in conference play which leads the WAC and netted the game-winner against Utah Valley… Brylee Hawkins of Grand Canyon scored the Lopes lone goal over the weekend in a win against NM State… UT Rio Grande Valley's Jada Maclean posted a pair of goals in a two-win weekend.
Other defensive nominees: Chicago State's Audra Wisehart produced 12 saves against UT Rio Grande Valley… Abby Burton of Grand Canyon posted two shutouts and 13 saves in win and a double-overtime tie… Seattle U's Ariana Romero made six saves and allowed just one goal in a win over Kansas City… Katherine Stokely of UT Rio Grande Valley led their defense in allowing just two shots on goal and zero goals in two matches… Utah Valley's Linley Brown anchored the defense and helped limit opponents to just one goal in two matches.
