DENVER –Kansas City's Rylan Childers and Grand Canyon's Abby Burton have been named the Western Athletic Conference Women's Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, for Oct. 22-28.
Childers, a freshman forward from Grain Valley, Mo. (Grain Valley), netted two goals and added three assists in a dominating 8-0 win over Chicago State. She had both goals in the second half scoring one in the 48th minute and the other in the 59th. Childers assisted goals scored by Ryann Burnett, Lexie Howard, and Amanda Sampson. She now has ten total goals in her first collegiate season.
Burton, a redshirt senior goalkeeper from Peoria, Ariz. (Liberty), led the Lopes in an overtime tie against CSU Bakersfield. Grand Canyon tied with CSU Bakersfield 3-3 after 110 minutes of play. Burton grabbed eight saves and helped the Lopes earn a fourth-place seed for the WAC Women's Soccer Tournament.
Other offensive nominees: California Baptist's Miranda Martinez scored the game-winner in a 2-1 victory against Montana… Camryn Larson of Grand Canyon scored twice in a 3-3 double-overtime tie with CSU Bakersfield… NM State's Alexa Barrera notched her first career multi-goal game with two against UT Rio Grande Valley… Leahi Manthei of Seattle U scored both goals in a 2-0 win against Utah Valley… UT Rio Grande Valley's Diandra Aliaga scored the game-winner against NM State.
Other defensive nominees: Kansas City's Anna Lillig helped the Roos to an 8-0 shutout against Chicago State.
