Rebekah Ray was appointed as the eighth comissioner in the history of the WAC by the conference Board of Directors on March 12, 2025. Ray had previously served as the interim commissioner of the league from October of 2024 until being elevated to the full-time role.
Ray originally joined the WAC staff in August of 2022 as the senior associate commissioner, sport administration and championships, along with being the senior woman administrator (SWA) of the conference. Ray’s responsibilities included oversight over all WAC Championships and serving as the primary conference administrator for a variety of WAC-sponsored sports, and as a liaison to the WAC Board of Directors.
Ray came to the WAC after spending eight years at former member institution Seattle University, where she served as the associate athletic director for facilities & operations and SWA. She oversaw all internal operations including department communication, capital projects, equipment, game operations, facility maintenance, as well as game scheduling.
While at Seattle U, Ray also represented the school on the WAC Medical Advisory and Sport Management Committees.
Prior to working at SU, Ray was the event, facilities, and equipment coordinator for Shoreline Community College, where she directed all events for seven sports and oversaw facility rentals. She also served as the assistant event manager at the University of Washington, director of gameday operations for the Seattle Sounders Women of the USL W-League and a marketing and promotions associate for the WNBA's Seattle Storm.
Ray has worked several collegiate championship events, including the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Final Four, the NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Championship, the Pac-12 Women's Basketball Tournament, the NCAA Gymnastics Regional Championship and the NCAA Division I Men's Swimming and Diving Championships.
Ray received a Bachelor of Science degree in applied learning development from the University of Texas and a master's degree in intercollegiate athletic leadership from the University of Washington.
