ARLINGTON, Texas – Southern Utah’s Dominque Ford and California Baptist’s Dominque Daniels Jr. have been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Men’s Basketball Player and Newcomer of the Week, for the game week ending on Sunday, Jan. 28.
 
Ford, a junior guard, earned the first conference weekly honor of the season for Southern Utah after a stellar performance in a pair of wins on the road for the Thunderbirds. Ford led all WAC players with a 23.0 points per game average for the week, opening with 23 points on 60.0 percent (6-of-10) shooting from the floor, 10 made free throws and three steals in a 73-70 win at Tarleton State on Jan. 25. Ford again posted 23 points while pulling down five rebounds and chipping in two steals in an 82-67 triumph for Southern Utah at Abilene Christian on Jan. 27.
 
Daniels Jr., a junior transfer guard, repeated as the conference newcomer of the week for red-hot CBU. Daniels Jr. averaged 19.0 points and 4.5 assists per contest over the course of two wins, which began with nine points and five assists for the Lancers in a 63-54 road win at UTRGV on Jan. 25. Daniels exploded for 29 points on 10 made field goals (five 3-pointers) and dished out four assists in an 81-79 CBU victory at Stephen F. Austin on Jan. 27.
