ARLINGTON, Texas – Grand Canyon’s JaKobe Coles was one of five players to earn Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week recognition from the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) on Tuesday for the game week ending Nov. 10. The honor is presented to five Division I men’s basketball players each week during the season in conjunction with the Oscar Robertson Trophy, the national player of the year award bestowed by the USBWA.

Coles, a senior transfer forward, won Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Player and Newcomer of the Week on Monday after he registered the first two double-doubles of his career during a 2-0 GCU start to the nonconference season. Coles led all WAC players with 21.0 points and 12.0 rebounds per game during the opening week, ranking eighth in the conference with a 56.7 shooting percentage (17-of-30) from the field.

Coles poured in a career-high 26 points and pulled down 13 rebounds, including 11 points and 10 rebounds in the second half alone, in an 89-79 win against Cal State Fullerton on Nov. 4. Coles contributed 16 points and 11 rebounds in a 74-72 GCU comeback victory over Western Kentucky on Nov. 9.
