ARLINGTON, Texas – Utah Valley’s Carter Welling has been named the University Credit Union Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Men’s Basketball Player and Newcomer of the Week, for the game week ending on Sunday, Dec. 22.

Welling, a sophomore transfer forward, averaged 22.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and a conference-high 4.0 blocks per game while shooting 68.0 percent for 2-0 Utah Valley. Welling tallied 23 points and pulled down nine rebounds to go along with three blocks and two steals in a 70-56 win at Idaho State on Dec. 18. Welling finished with 22 points, six rebounds and five blocked shots in a 64-62 win at Weber State on Dec. 21.
