HARLINGEN, Texas – Grand Canyon left no debate who the best team in the WAC is as they swept #2 Tarleton State 4-0 in the championship match, their third sweep in three tournament matches.

The Lopes had to fight for their doubles point as they fell early in court two to the Texans’ Elsa Boisson and Ximena Morales 2-6. Elizaveta Morozova and Iva Sepa recovered for GCU by conquering court three 6-4. That left both sides and fanbases to watch court one as Tarleton State’s Maretha Burger and Martha Makantasi forced GCU’s Natasha Puehse and Santa Strombacha into a tiebreaker. The Texans gave it their all but the WAC’s all-conference first doubles team prevailed in court one and secured the doubles point for the Lopes.

Grand Canyon’s domination continued into the singles courts as three straight set matches was all they needed to lock their second consecutive championship. Valeriia Krokhotina dominated court five 6-2, 6-1 and Sepa took court three 7-5, 6-1. Strombacha had the honor of clinching the championship match winning point for the Lopes on court two 6-4, 6-3.

The Lopes look to take their dominance to the NCAA as they await to find out who their opponent is on The Selection Show on NCAA.com on April 29th.
