2024 WAC Softball Championship Box Score
SEATTLE, Wash. – Grand Canyon ended the ball game in grand fashion as the No. 1 seeded Lopes defended its title with a 9-2 win over No. 2 California Baptist in the championship game of the 2024 University Credit Union WAC Softball Tournament at Logan Field. The Lopes became the first team in WAC softball tournament history to win three consecutive championship titles.
Ramsay Lopez drove in Grand Canyon’s first run at the bottom of the first with a single to right field. California Baptist’s
Kalena Burns would respond at the top of the second with her 10th home run of the season to left field to even the score.
A
Kayla Rodgers single to right field that sent
Savannah Kirk across home plate would give the Lopes a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second. At the top of the third,
Kayla Lyon drove in the Lancers second run of the game with a single to right field.
Ashley Trierweiler had a RBI single at the bottom of the fourth for a 4-2 Grand Canyon lead. The Lopes would catch fire at the bottom of the sixth as
Brynn-Jordan Smythe scored on a throwing error, then
Kristin Fifield’s double to left center led Rodgers to score (6-2). The Lopes logged back-to-back home runs as Lopez (2RBI) and
Makaiya Gomez both blasted home runs to right field for a final 9-2 score.
Hailey Hudson earned the win for GCU, allowing two hits, two runs with three strikeouts in five innings pitched.
Meghan Golden secured the save surrendering none with three strikeouts on 17 pitches.
Trierweiler was selected as
the 2024 WAC Most Outstanding Player after batting .455 with three hits, two doubles, one RBI and 20 putouts on the week. Joining Trierweiler on the all-tournament team from GCU was Fifield, Lopez, Rodgers and Golden. California Baptist was represented by Lyon,
Priscilla Estrada and
Presley Hosick. UT Arlington’s
Morgan Westbrook and Utah Valley’s
Angelique Mann and
Britney Moreno were also all-tournament team honorees.
