Grand Canyon Head to NCAA Los Angeles Regional

ARLINGTON, Texas – Grand Canyon, the winner of the 2024 University Credit Union WAC Softball Tournament, officially received the conference’s automatic bid into the NCAA Division I Softball Championship on Sunday night.

The Lopes (48-11) were one of four teams to qualify for the NCAA Los Angeles Regional and will collide with No. 6 national seed UCLA to begin its NCAA tournament schedule on May 17 at 5:30 p.m. PT. Virginia Tech and San Diego State will also compete at Easton Stadium in Los Angeles.

GCU is set to make its third appearance at NCAA Regionals after defending its title in the WAC tournament final with a 9-2 victory over California Baptist on May 11. The Lopes also traveled to Los Angeles in the 2023 national tournament as the WAC’s automatic qualifier with Grand Canyon earning its first NCAA Softball Championship win against UCLA (3-2).

The NCAA Regionals are double elimination, the 16 winners advance to super regionals and play a two-team, best-out-of-three series either May 23-25 or May 24-26. The eight winners earn spots in the 2024 Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City. The WCWS begins May 30 in double-elimination format. The final two teams play a best-of-three series for the national championship beginning June 5.
