ARLINGTON, Texas – Utah Valley’s Tanner Toolson and Dominick Nelson have been named the University Credit Union Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Men’s Basketball Player and Newcomer of the Week, for the game week ending on Saturday, Jan. 18.

Toolson, a redshirt sophomore guard, averaged 20.0 points per game on 56.5 percent shooting to go along with 4.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.5 steals for 2-0 Utah Valley. Toolson tallied 22 points, four rebounds, two assists and three steals in an 85-83 overtime win at UT Arlington on Jan. 16, which included 13 points and two steals in the second half to hold off a UTA comeback and send the game to overtime. Toolson registered 18 points, five rebounds and three assists back home in a 96-80 victory over in-state foe Utah Tech on Jan. 18.

Nelson, a junior transfer guard, matched Toolson with 20.0 points per game and chipped in 4.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per contest for Utah Valley last week. Nelson erupted for a game-high 25 points, including 19 in the second half and overtime, in the 85-83 overtime triumph at UTA on Jan. 16. Nelson added 15 points and four boards in the 96-80 home win versus Utah Tech on Jan. 18.
