ARLINGTON, Texas – The major award winners and all-conference teams for the 2025 WAC softball season were revealed on Tuesday, as voted on by the league’s nine head coaches. Grand Canyon’s
Savannah Kirk was named WAC Player of the Year, Grand Canyon’s
Meghan Golden earned WAC Pitcher of the Year, California Baptist’s
Priscilla Estrada was selected WAC Defensive Player of the Year, Tarleton State’s
Shelby Schultz was tabbed as WAC Freshman of the Year and Grand Canyon’s
Shanon Hays was voted by his peers as the WAC Coach of the Year for the second consecutive year.
Kirk batted in the leadoff spot for Grand Canyon in all 49 games this season as Kirk finished the campaign top-five in the nation in batting average (.506), hits (85), and stolen bases (43). Kirk was the only player in the country to not get caught stealing this season as she was perfect on the basepaths at 43-for-43, 21 more steals than the next highest bag stealer in the WAC. Kirk also led the WAC in on-base percentage (.554) and runs scored (48).
Golden posted an undefeated 13-0 record and the third-best ERA in the nation at 0.97 across 25 appearances while leading the WAC in opposing batting average (.188), hits allowed (59), runs allowed (13), and home runs allowed (3). Golden’s 13 runs allowed are 20 runs less than the next best pitcher in the conference. Golden threw two complete game shutouts including her last start against Abilene Christian on May 2
nd where the Lopes came away with the 1-0 win.
Estrada locked down the left side of the infield at shortstop for the Lancers this season as she started in all 54 California Baptist games in 2025. Estrada tallied a .959 fielding percentage and registered 109 assists this season, the second most in the WAC.
Schultz tallied a 15-4 record along with three saves in her debut season with the Texans, picking up the second most wins in the WAC. Schultz collected the most strikeouts in the conference with 162, 52 more strikeouts than the next highest pitcher. Schultz was also one of three pitchers in the WAC to not have allowed a triple this season.
Hays led Grand Canyon to its second straight WAC regular season title with a 43-6 overall record and a 21-2 conference record as the Lopes earned the top seed in the 2025 University Credit Union WAC Softball Tournament. Hays and the Lopes concluded the season on a 20-game winning streak, the longest in program history and the longest active winning streak in the nation. Grand Canyon led the conference as a team in majority of the offensive statistics including batting average (.350), slugging percentage (.536), on-base percentage (.438), runs scored (328), hits (439), RBI (301), and home runs (52).
Grand Canyon led all teams with seven players included on WAC all-conference teams, including five players on the first team. Seattle U claimed five all-conference honorees as California Baptist and Tarleton State had four selections of their own.
