ARLINGTON, Texas – Tarleton State’s Dior Johnson has been named the University Credit Union Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Men’s Basketball Player and Newcomer of the Week, for the game week ending on Sunday, Jan. 4.

Johnson, a junior transfer guard, was the leading scorer in the WAC after the first week of conference play for 2-1 Tarleton State. Johnson tallied 72 points in just over 70 minutes of action for an average of 24.0 points per game, shooting 57.9 percent (22-of-38) from the floor and 75.0 percent (24-of-32) from the free-throw line. Johnson scored a game-high 36 points after going 12-of-21 shooting and 9-of-12 at the line against Utah Valley on Jan. 1 before following up with 34 points that included 15 made free throws in a win over California Baptist on Jan. 3. Johnson’s five 30-point games this season lead all WAC players, and his 23.1 points per game average was tied for the top spot in NCAA Division I as of Jan. 4.
