ARLINGTON, Texas – California Baptist’s Dominique Daniels Jr. and Southern Utah’s Elijah Duval have been named the University Credit Union Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Men’s Basketball Player and Newcomer of the Week, for the game week ending on Sunday, Feb. 15.

Daniels, a graduate student guard, led the conference with 30.5 points per game on 45.8 shooting from the floor in a 1-1 CBU week. Daniels scored a game-high 32 points on 12-of-24 shooting, adding in two rebounds and two assists in an 83-66 victory at Southern Utah on Feb. 12. In the marquee game of the week on Feb. 14 against Utah Tech, Daniels went the full 40 minutes and tallied a game-high 29 points in a 70-65 setback in St. George.

Duval, a freshman guard, earned a second conference freshman of the week nod in the past three weeks during a 1-1 slate of games for Southern Utah. In a home defeat against CBU on Feb. 12, Duval finished with 14 points, six rebounds and four assists in 24 minutes of action. In a crucial road win for the Thunderbirds at UT Arlington on Feb. 14, Duval scored a game-high 20 points in just 21 minutes prior to fouling out, adding three assists and two rebounds in a 78-73 win.
