ARLINGTON, Texas – Tarleton State’s Sergio Guerra and Utah Tech’s Ryan Kroepel have been named the University Credit Union Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, for the game week ending on Sunday, Feb. 15.

Guerra, a senior catcher, tore the cover off the ball for 3-0 Tarleton State in a season opening sweep of Le Moyne in Stephenville. Guerra batted .667 with a 2.511 OPS, smashing three home runs while driving in 13 runs and scoring six times in the series sweep. Guerra reached base in all five plate appearances in the first game of the series on Feb. 13, clubbing two home runs while logging eight RBIs and scoring four runs in a 20-3 Tarleton State rout. Guerra added his third home run of the weekend and drove in five more runs in a 13-8 win for the Texans on Feb. 15.

Kroepel, a junior right-handed pitcher, threw three spotless innings of relief for Utah Tech during a four-game sweep of UC Riverside. Kroepel entered in the sixth inning and recorded the final six outs in succession for the save in a 4-3 victory in game one of a doubleheader on Feb. 14. Kroepel returned to the mound in the nightcap with the tying runner on deck and nobody out in the final inning and retired the side in order for his second save of the day and a 12-8 Utah Tech win. While also starting every game of the series at third base, Kroepel batted .375 with nine RBIs and five runs scored for Utah Tech.
