Utah Valley and UT Arlington Command Day One of the 2026 WAC Indoor Track and Field Championships

SPOKANE, Washington – A thrilling first day of the 2026 WAC Indoor Track and Field Championships came to a close with Utah Valley leading the men’s standings and UT Arlington on top of the women’s leaderboard. The Wolverines scored 63.5 points through five events and the Mavericks notched 67 points through six events.
 
Tarleton State ended the day in second place in the men’s standings with 46 points, followed by UT Arlington with 36.5 points. Utah Valley trails closely in the women’s standings in second place with 59 points with Tarleton State right on its tail with 57 points.
 
The Utah Valley men’s team climbed to the top of the day one standings after taking four of the top five spots in the men’s 5,000-meter run, led by the individual champion, Porter Whitworth, who ran the event in a time of 14:20.50. The Wolverines also claimed the gold in the men’s 4000-meter distance medley relay that was ran by Gilbert Olivas, Collin Petersen, Pierce Vittone and Cayden Tupper.
 
Eliza Lemberga helped the UT Arlington women’s squad start the day off right by capturing the pentathlon title with 3974 points. Lemberga finished third or better in four of the five events including a first-place finish in the event’s 800-meter race. The Mavericks then closed the night by taking the top spot in the women’s 4000-meter distance medley relay as Emilia Mandl, Zaire Moore, Kayan Green and Linn Adolfsson added 10 points to UTA’s total team score.
 
The Tarleton State sprinters stole the show as two Texans set all-time WAC records in the preliminary races. Victoria Cameron broke her own all-time 60-meter dash record with a time of 7.09, tied for the fastest 60-meter dash in NCAA D-I this season. Lauren Roy also broke her own all-time record in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.94, which is a Podium facility record as well.
