2026 WAC Baseball Release - Week 3

TRAILBLAZERS FLYING HIGH AT 11-1

Utah Tech remained in first place in the WAC following a sixth straight win, a 6-4 decision over Northern Colorado on March 1, to improve to 11-1 (.917) on the 2026 season. With wins in four of the past five games, California Baptist checked in second in the standings with an 11-3 (.786) mark.

ANOTHER QUALITY VICTORY FOR UTA
UT Arlington earned its second win of the season over a power conference opponent in the series opening contest at Arkansas on Feb. 27, opening an early lead before holding on for a 4-3 victory over the Razorbacks. A big two-run home run for Austin Phillips in the top of the sixth inning provided the ultimate winning run for UTA, who was spurred to victory thanks to a stellar start from Caylon Dygert. Dygert spun 8.2 innings of two-hit baseball, surrendering two unearned runs and two walks while striking out 11 Arkansas batters on 130 pitches for his first win of 2026.

UTAH TECH’S KELLY THE LATEST STELLAR ARM OUT OF THE PEN
Already the home to the top closer in the WAC in Ryan Kroepel, who has earned five saves in his first five pitching appearances this season, Utah Tech has found another solid performer in fellow right hander Talan Kelly. Kelly did not allow a baserunner in two appearances versus Northern Colorado, throwing a spotless ninth inning with three strikeouts in an 11-5 win on Feb. 28 before tossing 1.1 scoreless frames with two strikeouts to pick up the win in a 6-4 triumph on March 1, earning WAC Pitcher of the Week honors in the process.

ACU WINS WILD MIDWEEK GAME
Trailing Stephen F. Austin 10-1 entering the bottom of the fifth inning was not a cause for concern for Abilene Christian, as 19 unanswered runs later the Wildcats emerged with a 20-10 midweek victory in eight innings on March 4. After being held hitless through the first three full innings, ACU erupted with 17 hits over the final five innings to plate its 20 runs. Four different Wildcats finished the game with multi-RBI nights, led by the two home runs and nine RBIs of designated hitter Diego Cardenas.

WAC IN THE NCAA RPI
In the latest NCAA RPI rankings that were released on March 4, both Utah Tech (89) and California Baptist (97) represented the WAC among the nation’s top 100 teams.
