MESA, Ariz. – In a historic offensive showcase at Hohokam Stadium, Tarleton State captured their second-ever WAC Baseball Tournament championship with a 21-11 win over Sacramento State on Saturday at the 2026 University Credit Union Western Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament.
The combined 32 runs marked the highest-scoring game in WAC Tournament play since 1996 and the most runs ever scored in a WAC tournament game at Hohokam Stadium.
The Hornets struck first with a 3-1 lead in the opening inning, but the Texans answered with five runs in the fourth inning as part of a dominant offensive performance that produced 21 runs on the way to the championship victory.
SAC State was led by Ryan Ellis, who stayed red hot at the plate by going 4-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBI. Luis Pimentel-Guerrero and Jakob Poturnak each added home runs for the Hornets.
Tarleton State’s offense was powered by Slade McCloud, who delivered a massive championship-game performance by going 4-for-6 with a home run and five RBI. Tournament Most Outstanding Player Raphael Smeenk finished 3-for-4 with four RBI as Sergio Guerra added a home run while six Texans recorded multi-RBI games in the title-clinching victory.
