Tarleton State, Sacramento State to Play in Championship of the 2026 University Credit Union WAC Baseball Tournament

MESA, Ariz. – Tarleton State is heading to the championship of the University Credit Union WAC Baseball Tournament. The Texans will face Sacramento State as the Hornets defeated Utah Tech and California Baptist on Friday night.

Raphael Smeenk hit two home runs to help send the Texans to the championship on Saturday. TSU jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third inning with solo homers by Smeenk and Carson Lorch. Ethan Wendel picks up the win, his sixth of the season as Tai Phetluangsy picks up his 8th save of the season. The Lancers will play in the 7 pm MST game against the winner of game 8 for the right to face Tarleton State in tomorrow's championship.

Ryan Ellis went 2-3 with a 423' home run shot that went over both bullpens and 3 RBI to help the Hornets stay alive and advance to the 7 pm MST game. Carson Timothy picks up the win on the mound as he went 5.1 innings, striking out six and giving up five hits. Sean Carey gets the save. Utah Tech finishes the season with a record of 35-24.

Sacramento State took command in the 5th inning scoring five runs and will play in their first WAC championship game since 2019. Ryan Ellis continued his red-hot tournament at the plate going 3-4 with three doubles and 2 RBI for the Hornets. Jakob Poturnak blasted a 3-run home run in the 8th inning that would put the game out of reach. Sacramento State will play Tarleton State for the championship starting at 3 pm MST on Saturday. The Hornets will need to win two games to take home the title. CBU ends the WAC tournament with a record of 44-15.
